We conducted a real-world fast-charging test for the Denza D9, charging it from 10% to 100% using the Teison-IGP 120kW DC Charger installed at Denza Glenmarie. Here’s what we discovered.
Total Charging Time: 73 Minutes
The session began at 9:08 AM and completed at 10:21 AM, taking a total of 1 hour and 13 minutes to reach full charge. The Denza D9 shows excellent charging characteristics in the lower SoC range and typical tapering behavior after 80%.
Fast Charging Phase: 10% to 65%
At 10% SoC, the D9 immediately drew 116.98kW from the charger. It maintained high-speed charging above 100kW consistently until it reached 65%.
This phase lasted about 33 minutes and is where the car gained most of its range efficiently. If you’re on the move, this is the most effective charging window.
Tapering Begins: 65% to 85%
After 65%, the vehicle began to reduce power intake to protect the battery. By the time it hit 85%, the charging power dropped to 56.45kW.
Despite the tapering, this phase still delivered meaningful range. Charging from 10% to 85% took around 47 minutes in total — an excellent benchmark for those needing a quick top-up.
Deep Tapering: 85% to 97%
From 85% onward, power reduced further. At 97%, charging power dropped to 28.65kW.
This phase lasted about 16 minutes and added limited range per minute. While necessary for full charging, this part is significantly slower and less efficient.
Final Stretch: 97% to 100%
Between 97% and 99%, charging slowed to 16.7kW, and eventually dropped to 0kW at 100% SoC by 10:21 AM.
This final 3% took roughly 10 minutes and mainly served to balance the battery cells.
Efficiency Takeaway
If your goal is speed and practicality, charging up to 85% is optimal. Beyond that point, charging slows significantly.
The Denza D9 performs best in the 10% to 65% range, where power is consistently above 100kW. Topping up to 85% still offers good efficiency. Beyond that, expect diminishing returns.
