Not All Breakers Are Built the Same: Terasaki, Temlite, Lovato & Hager Compared

By Alvin Wong, CEO of Innovative Green Power Sdn. Bhd.

Lately, we’ve encountered a few situations where customers ended up with Temlite breakers priced and presented as if they were Terasaki-grade components.

While there’s no issue with using entry-level products where appropriate, it’s important to match quality and performance with price and application.

This post isn’t about pointing fingers — it’s about empowering you to understand what you’re paying for, and why it matters.

Understanding the Brands: Origin and Purpose

  • Terasaki → Engineered for mission-critical applications such as ships, factories, and high-demand electrical systems.
  • Lovato → Balances performance and price, trusted in many industrial installations.
  • Hager → Known for clean design, reliability, and strong performance in residential and commercial setups.
  • Temlite → Designed for the budget segment, suitable for basic residential use — but not built to compete with the brands above.

Comparing Build Quality and Performance

Use-Case Suitability Snapshot

Where the Confusion Happens

In some installations, Temlite breakers have been used in place of Terasaki or Lovato, but priced closer to the premium end.

This can happen due to:

  • Miscommunication
  • Bundled packages
  • Mislabeling

The end result? Customers unknowingly overpay for components that don’t match the specification.

To be clear:

  • Temlite is not “bad” — it’s simply a budget product meant for light-duty residential use.
  • It is not intended for high-load systems like EV charging or industrial panels.

The Right Breaker for the Right Job

  • For home lighting and small appliances → Temlite may do the job.
  • For EV chargers, air-conditioner compressors, or main incoming circuits → Choose Terasaki, Lovato, or Hager, depending on the application.

Choosing the right brand ensures:

  • ✅ Better arc protection and lifespan
  • ✅ Lower risk of nuisance tripping
  • ✅ Safer performance in hot Malaysian climates
