How Much Does Home EV Charger Installation Cost in Malaysia?

1. Introduction

How much does it cost to install an EV charger at home? The answer depends on what’s included—installation labour alone, or the charger unit, longer cabling and supply upgrades. To avoid misleading our customers, this article explains the typical cost factors, cites reliable sources on market price ranges and presents Innovative Green Power’s own installation packages.

2. What Influences Cost

  • Charger unit: Hardware prices vary by brand and features.
  • Installation labour and materials: Wiring, conduit, protective devices, site inspection and commissioning.
  • Supply upgrades: Additional cost if your electrical supply must be upgraded to three-phase.
  • Civil works: Wall chasing, ceiling cutting or concealed cabling add extra labour and materials.

3. Market Price Ranges

Recent guides and installer blogs indicate that a complete home charging setup (charger unit plus installation) usually costs RM2,000RM5,000. Where the charger unit is excluded and only labour and materials are considered, costs can start at around RM1,500 and increase depending on cable length, site complexity and supply upgrades. It’s therefore important to clarify whether a price includes the charger or not.

4. IGP’s Standard Installation Packages (as of July 2025)

Innovative Green Power offers transparent, installation-only packages for typical residential setups (excluding charger and supply upgrades). Each package includes site planning, a high-quality distribution box, protection devices (MCB, RCCB, isolator), minimum 6 mm² cabling up to 10 m, charger installation and testing:

  • Single-Phase 6mm² Package: RM 1 599
  • Single-Phase 10mm² Package: RM 1 999
  • Three-Phase 6mm² Package: RM 1 699
  • Three-Phase 10mm² Package: RM 2 199

Additional charges apply for cable runs beyond 10 m, concealed cabling or extra civil works. Site visits are RM 150 (rebated if you proceed). An extended installation warranty is optional for RM 100. Our pricing is competitive because it covers standard labour and materials; it does not include the charger unit or the cost of upgrading your supply.

5. When Costs Increase

  • Charger unit: High-power chargers or smart features add to the hardware cost.
  • Long cable runs: Each extra metre of 6 mm² or 10 mm² cable increases material and labour costs.
  • Three-phase supply upgrade: If your home currently has single-phase supply, upgrading to three-phase costs roughly RM1500RM4000.
  • Civil works: Concealed wiring, hacking walls or ceilings and additional drilling will add labour time and material costs.

6. Conclusion

Home EV charger installation costs vary widely. Credible sources suggest complete setups cost RM 2 000–5 000, while basic labour and materials alone can begin at around RM 1 500. IGP’s standard installation packages range from RM 1 599 to RM 2 199, excluding the charger and supply upgrade. When comparing quotes, verify what is included and ensure that the installer provides a dedicated circuit, proper protection devices and professional testing. Transparent pricing and regulatory compliance protect your investment.
